Here is Aarzoo Pathan blog. On August,11 2025 the Government Arts College Talaja the activities for B.A second year students which are base on translation study of Gulzar's Ghazal Dil dhundhta hai ( The heart seeks) of our syllabus. This blog is given by our prof.Hinaba Sarvaiya.
In our translation study Ghazal in our syllabus is titled Dil Dhundhta Hai( The Heart Seeks) by Gulzar. Here is some introduction of Gulzar.
Gulzar:
Gulzar, born Sampooran Singh Kalra on August 18, 1934, is a renowned Indian poet, lyricist, author, screenwriter, and film director. His life story is a testament to his perseverance and talent.
Early Life:
Gulzar was born in Dina, Jhelum District, British India (now Pakistan), to Makhan Singh Kalra and Sujan Kaur. After the partition, his family migrated to India and settled in Delhi. His father's disapproval of his writing aspirations didn't deter him from pursuing his passion. Gulzar worked various jobs, including painting cars at a garage in Worli, Mumbai, to support his family while nurturing his love for poetry
Career:
Gulzar's entry into the film industry began with Bimal Roy Productions, where he worked as an assistant director and lyricist. His breakthrough came with the song "Mora Gora Ang Lai Le" for the 1963 film Bandini, composed by S.D. Burman. He went on to collaborate with prominent music directors like R.D. Burman, A.R. Rahman, and Vishal Bhardwaj, penning timeless classics.

Lyrics: "Kabhi Kabhie", "Anand", "Ghar", "Ijaazat", and "Maachis"
Directorial Ventures: "Mere Apne", "Aandhi", "Angoor", and "Maachis"
English novel:
Two is Gulzar's debut novel released in English. It examines the status of refugees after partition. Two was originally written in Urdu.

Personal Life
Gulzar married actress Rakhee in 1973, and they have a daughter, Meghna Gulzar, who is a film director. Despite separating, they never divorced. Gulzar's love for gardening and lawn tennis is well-known, and he has been involved with NGOs supporting physically challenged children.
Family Background: Born Sampooran Singh Kalra on August 18, 1934, in Dina, Jhelum District, British India (now Pakistan), Gulzar hails from a Sikh family. His parents were Makhan Singh Kalra and Sujan Kaur.
Marriage and Children: Gulzar married actress Rakhee in 1973, and they have a daughter, Meghna Gulzar, born on December 13, 1973. Meghna is a successful film director and writer. However, Gulzar and Rakhee eventually separated, reportedly due to disagreements about Rakhee's acting career.

The heart seeks again those moments of leisure
Lying in the courtyard in the mellow winter sun
The shade of your aanchal pulled over my eyes
Face down, and sometimes on one’s side
Or, on summer nights, when the east wind blows
To lie awake for long on cold white sheets
Sprawled on the roof, gazing at the stars
On some cold snowy night perhaps
To sit again in the embrace of that mountain
And listen to the silence echoing in the valley
The heart seeks again those moments of leisure
When all day and night we just sat thinking of the beloved.
An activity presented by Semester 03 students of English Department:
This poem is tought us by Hina Mam. She tought us in very simple and easy way. They explained to us poem from a very well. And reminded Poem singing and practicing.This Activity Idea was also her.They wanted us to remember this ghazal and sing together. Because of this we can remember for a long time.
In the translation paper here is Ghazal, it help us to remember it well, Hina mam organised this activity. There was an outfit theme decided for an activity. Theme was Pink and Black. We all wore students Pink and Black Outfits.Not only students but both our professors Madam Purvi Mam and Hina Mam also followed theme. They also wear pink or black.
We first did the board work. Board work was a part of our activity. Than after this beautiful boar work, the time for our presentation. We are sitting in two round . And we practice last time with music. And purvi mam teach us the rhythem of Ghazal.
Purvi mam guide us. And we start to sing, "Dil Dhundhta Hai'' we also did the translation of this Ghazal in English. In end we click group photos. We enjoy a lot. We are enjoy to sing this masterpiece. The Ghazal is amazing. I share the reference song version for this Ghazal. Which we use for practice.
